Where There's Room to Breathe
A mere 15 minutes northwest from Annapolis is the village of Crownsville. A community of only 1,670 residents (as of the 2000 census) and with an area of 14.4 km, it's probably one of the least-densely populated communities in the county. Folks here like to have their space, and they guard it jealously from whatever may threaten it (like overdevelopment). As a result, lots here are quite spacious and the community remains fairly peaceful.
Crownsville is well-known throughout the state mostly for hosting the Anne Arundel County Fair every September and the Maryland Renaissance Festival in the summer. Popular tourist attractions, these fairs are also usually a big hit with the area's younger families. The Renaissance Fair even has jousting tournaments.
There's a variety of neighborhoods to choose from, as well as a diversity of housing stock. Crownsville, MD homes come in all shapes and sizes, from waterfront properties to cottages to expansive estates. Constructed along the Severn River, the neighborhoods of Herald Harbor, Palisades and Sunrise Beach have dock properties with great waterfront views. Prices here can start in the $300,000 range and can climb up to 7-digit figures. Other communities like Cranberry Woods, Sherwood Forest and the Eisenhower Country Club come with large homes on even larger lots.
If you want privacy and a countryside setting, then Crownsville would be perfect for you. That it's only minutes away from Annapolis and other major cities is icing on the cake.
